It’s autumn in this Calgary glassblowing studio. In the mornings, there’s a hallelujah chorus of light and colour coming from the large works in the front window and gifts in the gallery. Later, the lingering scents of summer, music playing, and glass artists working are a tonic for the soul. The latest season of Blown Away has launched and we can’t help but wonder which workshop student will come to experience glassblowing, discover the molten mystery and one day become a contestant? Which terrific artist currently creating at fascapple glass will venture onto Blown Away?

For instance, have you ever gazed upon a diatom? It’s an alga that lives in oceans and seas and the only organism on earth with cell walls made of glass. They’re intricately, stunningly beautiful.
In this International Year of Glass, it’s only fitting to celebrate the medium and the people who love it so. We want to thank the great community of glass artists that have been supporting fascapple glass since we “opened” in 2020 in the thick of the pandemic. We’re grateful to our clients and galleries who appreciate the soul, sweat and skill that goes into the work created here.
