Guests & gifts
It’s the season to celebrate weddings, retirements, anniversaries, birthdays and summer itself. The gallery has been busy with clients choosing grand originals, elegant bowls and vases, charming decanters and small somethings for hosts. You’ll see our latest creations on instagram@fascappleglass.
We’ve also been welcoming workshop guests from down the way to far away. In June, I believe it was the lovely client from Scotland that came the greatest distance. An inspiring woman who has lived over 90 years, she enjoyed another adventure blowing glass for the first time. It was a fine morning with grandmother, daughter and granddaughters all learning together. They created wonderful memories and treasures.
We marked a few firsts as well in June. For instance, we hosted a glassblowing experience for Tourism Calgary (#MeetCalgary) and their guests—meeting planners from Canada and the United States. Moonstone Creations also participated in the event. The fascapple glass team appreciated being part of showcasing what Calgary offers visitors.
There are so many dynamic changes underway in this city from the recent opening of the expanded BMO Centre to the major renovation of the Glenbow Museum. Earlier this spring, I had the opportunity to tour the latter. Thank you to Nicholas Bell, President & CEO, for leading us through what’s going to be a welcoming, exciting and important place. The spaces inside and out set the stage for amazing experiences.
A $25-million donation from the Shaw Family Foundation means that when the Glenbow reopens in 2026, year-round, general admission will be forever free. The creation of the J R Shaw Free Admission Endowment is a pause worthy fact. Ours will be the “first major public museum in Canda” to offer such accessibility to all. Consider how this gift changes the character of Calgary for generations to come. It will take time for people to make visiting a regular habit, but the reasons to go will be irresistible from the spaces to the permanent collections to the engaging worldclass programming. Get ready to be amazed. Use this link to see more about the Glenbow Reimagined: https://www.glenbow.org/reimagined/.
Studio update
We’re looking forward to making some changes at the studio this August. We’ll be replacing the heart of our studio, the furnace, and increasing our annealing capacity. This means the hotshop will be closed for workshops and rentals next month.
Given the nature of the work, for August, the fascapple glass gallery will be open by appointment only. To book, email ask@fascappleglass.com or call 403-874-9849. We’d be happy to help.
Thank you to our community and our guests for your patience during this interruption. September’s reopening will be exciting and we’re already booking workshops for the fall to December season.
